Bankhead Lake Fishing
Bankhead Lake is a large reservoir located in northwestern Atlanta, Georgia. It is a popular fishing location for largemouth bass, spotted bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, black crappie, white crappie, rainbow trout, bluegill, redear sunfish, and striped bass.
There are several good spots to fish Bankhead Lake for these species: The upper end of the lake has good largemouth bass fishing on both sides of the dam. The heavily populated areas near the bridge can be frustrating if you’re looking for largemouths but there are several good spots just below the bridge where smaller fish can be caught. The far side of the dam offers good spotted bass fishing in the open areas along the shoreline.
Channel catfish can be found in most of the reservoirs main channels and in some of the deeper holes and lakeshores. Flathead catfish are common around Structure Point and around the boat dock in the lower part of the reservoir. Black crappie can be found near shoreline vegetation in most areas of Bankhead Lake. White crappie are more common in deeper parts of the reservoir.
Rainbow trout have been caught from deep holes on both sides of the dam and from cut banks around Structure Point on the far side of the dam. Bluegill can also be found near shoreline vegetation but they are much more common in early morning and late evening when they feed on small fish that have been attracted to artificial.
